We nearly didn't get to build our dream house

Hi Reader,

How you lay your business foundations will have a huge impact on its future growth. I find that this is still an area of business that isn’t given enough attention or truly understood. It's so often overlooked as it's not thought as the fun and glamorous side of running a business.

But think about this....

Imagine you’re building your dream home and find out that the original foundation design won’t support the vision you have, what do you do?

  1. Do you redesign your house to match the unsupportive foundations
  2. Or, do you take the time to strengthen the foundations so that you can go forward with your dream house

If you answered #2, you’re in the right place!

I was faced with this decision when my husband and I were building our house. We almost weren’t able to build our dream home because of a foundational issue. Work had not long started on site when the architect called....

The ground wasn’t as supportive as originally predicted which meant a complete redesign if we wanted to go ahead.

So we had to make a choice: Rethink the overall design of the property or reinforce the foundations now to continue with the house we wanted.

Of course, we decided not to compromise on our future enjoyment. The foundation was reinforced to keep the vision of the house we wanted.

It’s easy to think that most of the work that you do needs to focus on how your business looks.

Your offers, content, branding, messaging, and social media presence…

These are all important aspects of business, but what’s supporting it?

Do not compromise your dream business because you don’t have the right systems in place.

Your systems need to support:

  • Your working style
  • What you do (your services/products)
  • The best experience possible for current and potential clients
  • Your deliverability and make your business growth simple
  • Your future goals

Identify, create, test, and implement the systems that suit your business vision and mission.

Another amazing result of reinforcing your foundations is a stronger mindset. When you do the foundational work, you’re more confident that your business will be able to support your vision now and in the future.

How are you compromising your dream business because of a poor foundation?

Katie

PS: our house was completed without any more issues! And it was definitely worth reinforcing the foundations!
