Hi Reader,
Last week, I had a conversation that I didn’t realise I needed.
A past client asked if they could "interview" me in a 'in conversation with' way. He was my very first client in 2010, and we worked together until 2021 when he retired. He is in PR, and being with me from the very beginning and seeing where my business is now, he has always watched with interest at how it's evolved. He wanted to write about my story. My business journey. The work I do. He wanted to capture the essence of what I bring to businesses like his.
I won’t lie, when we set it up, I felt a bit nervous. Over the last couple of years, I’ve been so deep in the work, behind the scenes, making things happen for others, that I hadn’t really taken the time to articulate my own path. How do you sum up years of experience, pivots, lessons, and wins in a way that makes sense? That feels cohesive? That doesn’t just sound like a list of projects and clients, but actually tells the story of why you do what you do?
But then, as we talked, something clicked. I found my stride. The more I spoke, the more I realised I wasn’t just recounting a timeline, I was reconnecting with the bigger picture of my work. The through line that’s always been there, even when I felt like I was shifting gears or reinventing things.
That conversation reminded me that I don’t just manage businesses, I help untangle complexity, bring clarity, and create movement. I help entrepreneurs and CEOs build something that not only functions well but feels good to run. And as I spoke about it, I could feel the confidence settling in again - not forced, not over-explained, just there.
Sometimes, we need someone else to ask the right questions so we can hear our own answers clearly.
If you’ve been feeling a little disconnected from your own story, I highly recommend finding someone to talk it through with, whether it’s a friend, a coach, or even just journaling. You might be surprised at what’s already inside you, waiting to be said.
Here’s to finding (or rediscovering) your stride.
What’s a conversation you’ve had recently that made you see yourself differently?
